How to buy an Amazon gift card with Bitcoin (BTC) in 2026

Amazon still doesn't accept Bitcoin directly. A gift card is the simplest way to spend your BTC on the largest online store. Here's how.

Why use a gift card?

Amazon doesn't accept Bitcoin as a direct payment method, and hasn't signaled any change in 2026. The only quick and instant way to spend your BTC on Amazon, without going through an exchange and a bank transfer, is the gift card.

You buy an Amazon gift card with Bitcoin, you receive a code by email, you enter that code in your Amazon account, and the balance is credited within seconds. No link between your banking identity and the purchase.

Choosing between on-chain and Lightning

For Amazon cards under €100, prefer Lightning Network: near-zero fees and instant confirmation. Lightning is mature in 2026 and broadly supported by major wallets (Phoenix, Wallet of Satoshi, BlueWallet, Muun).

For larger amounts (€250+), on-chain may be handier if your BTC sits in a cold wallet (Ledger, Trezor). On-chain fees remain acceptable (€1 to €5) in 2026 for medium-sized transactions.

Step by step

1. Pick an Amazon card from the catalog, choose the amount (15, 25, 50, 100, 250 or 500 €) and the country of validity (Amazon.fr, Amazon.de, Amazon.com...).

2. On the payment screen, pick BTC (or Lightning if offered). An address and a QR code appear. The BTC price is locked for 15 minutes.

3. Open your Bitcoin wallet (Trust Wallet, Exodus, BlueWallet, Phoenix, or an exchange like Kraken/Coinbase). Scan the QR or paste the address. Send the exact amount.

4. Once the transaction confirms (1 on-chain confirmation, or instant on Lightning), the Amazon gift card code is emailed to you. Allow under 60 seconds on Lightning, up to 30 minutes on-chain.

5. Sign in to your Amazon account, go to 'Gift cards and balance', enter the code. The balance is credited immediately.

Common pitfalls

Country matters. An Amazon.com card cannot be used on Amazon.fr, and vice versa. Check the country before buying.

Once revealed, the code can't be cancelled. This is by design — it enables instant delivery. Keep the email safe; don't open the card if you plan to gift it.

Avoid sending BTC from a shared exchange address: prefer your own wallet. This avoids bounces and pointless delays.

What does it actually cost?

The listed price is the final price. No hidden fees. The only ancillary costs are the Bitcoin network fees (paid by your wallet; it tells you before sending). On Lightning: under one cent. On-chain: between €0.50 and €5 in 2026 depending on congestion.
